2003 CAROLINA BENCH PRESS OPEN
RESULTS: BENCH: 315lbs. GUEST LIFTER BEST OVERALL LIFTER WORLD RECORD (tie) MEET DESCRIPTION: The 2003 Carolina Bench Press Open was Jennifer’s first meet as the new North Carolina Powerlifting State Chair. Having to organize and direct her first meet took some time and effort. Thanks to a lot of help from a great group of friends, Jennifer was still able to compete as a guest lifter. She was not sure of her training leading into the meet, but many who had signed up to compete, including some of her previous students, wanted to see her lift. With Dennis Ceiri, one of Jen’s World teammates, making the trip down from New Jersey to guest lift as well, Jen had some competition. After making weight, then weighing the rest on the competitors in, Jen prepared to lift. Her preparation was a little different than usual. It included setting up the competition, assigning jobs to the helpers, and getting the referees and spotters ready. After getting everything started she took a couple quick warm-ups and was ready to go. She decided to just go big right away. She knew based on Wilkes formula she was going to need a big lift to beat Dennis. She opened heavy at 303lbs. Although she locked out the weight, she got turned down for a short pause. She repeated 303 again and this time it was perfect. Now that she was on the board she decided give her World Record a shot. 314lbs was loaded on the bar and Jen got herself mentally ready. She realized that she needed to put all the distractions aside. Amazingly, she just muscled 314lbs up with a slow steady lock out. Even with all the pre-meet work, she had just tied her World Record. Now it would be Dennis’ turn to try to match her lifting. After he was only able to get his opener she had him. Although he benched 568lb, Jen beat him by 1.7lbs on formula. A huge thanks needs to go to all the helpers, many of who had never seen a powerlifting meet. It went off without a hitch and your help was greatly appreciated. |
