    BEST FEMALE LIFTER

MEET DESCRIPTION:

Jennifer went to the Viking Open in Chicago in order to get a qualifying score for Powerlifting Nationals. Losing weight to get down from her body weight of 139 lbs. to132 lbs. is starting to get tough. This was evident on the plane ride in which every answer was short and snippy. She was a little over-trained for this meet and had not done bench or shoulders for the last month. This was to be able to concentrate on squatting which has been her weak point.

The squat came first and Jen seemed very relaxed and lifted very well, getting all three lifts easily. She started with 225, the 250 and made a 270 lb. third attempt look easy. It appeared that she had about 10 pounds in reserve but this was still a personal best by over 70 pounds.

Next came her specialty and with came the nerves. As soon as the bench press started you could see her expression and demeanor change. Some of this may have been due to not training bench over the last month. 236.5 lbs. on her first attempt was a quality lift. Then came the difficulties, uneven extensions, something Jen has never had happen before. Her second attempt was 250 lbs. and her right arm lagged behind. She decided to try for the American record with her third lift of 259 lbs., but again her right arm couldn’t keep up. This left her with only 236.5 lbs. in the bench.

Once the dead lift started, Jen seemed to relax again. The first two attempts were easy at 270 and 295 lbs. respectfully. For her third attempt, Jennifer chose 325 lbs., which was 35 pounds more then, her personal best. It was a struggle but with good technique the lift counted with three white lights. With personal bests I the squat, 270 lbs., dead lift 325 lbs., and the total 831.5 lbs. Jen easily won the 132 pound weight championship. In addition, with the decision to go so high in her final dead lift she also took the Best Female Lifter title (pound for pound) by less than one pound.

This was a great meet with improvements in all aspects of Jennifer’s powerlifting.
