TOTAL: 727lbs.1ST PLACE 148lb WEIGHT CLASS, POWERLIFTING 1ST PLACE 148lb WEIGHT CLASS, BENCH PRESS BEST FEMALE LIFTER, POWERLIFTING BEST FEMALE LIFTER, BENCH PRESS NORTH CAROLINA BENCH PRESS RECORD MEET DESCRIPTION: After qualifying for Bench Press Worlds, Jen decided to try to workout some of the competition jitters she has suffered with by competing in the Palmetto Open. The Palmetto Open was both a full powerlifting meet as well as a bench press competition. Jennifer decided to compete in both and did not cut any weight for this one; she competed in the 148 lb. weight class instead of 132. However, even after eating breakfast before weigh-in she only weighed 134 lbs. We got to drive to this meet which was held just outside Greenville, SC. The meet started well with the squat being first as usual. Jen decided to start with a light weight so there would be no chance of bombing out, like she almost did in the Detroit Rock City meet. She was also only here to work on the bench press for the upcoming worlds, which are a little over a month away. Her opening squat was 135 lbs., then 185 and finally 193 lbs. on her final attempt, which is her personal best. Next was the bench press. Due to a coaches error Jen’s first attempt at 236.5 lbs. did not count because of coaching on the lifting platform. A second attempt at 236.5 was easy, and without any coaching error, counted this time. The final attempt at 250 lbs. was a little quick at the bottom and was called for no pause. Jen settled for 236.5 lbs. in the bench but was pretty satisfied with how she lifted because her nerves seemed to be in check. In addition, she set a new North Carolina Bench Press Record. Dead lift was last and with a pull of 297.5 lbs. on her second attempt, and a near miss at 315, her total was 727 lbs. another personal best. This meet was a good test for Jen and added some much-needed experience for the upcoming worlds. Jennifer ended up with the win in the Powerlifting as well as the Bench Press competitions and was also the Best Female Lifter in both. |
